4 Ayurvedic Secrets for Glowing Skin
Ayurveda’s approach to skin care occurs from the inside out. Try these tips to nourish your skin naturally.
When we think of our skin, other than what it looks like, most of us think of it as the way we experience touch. From an Ayurvedic perspective, the quality of touch we receive affects our nervous system. It can excite, disturb or calm the airy Vatta Dosha, which governs our nervous system and becomes agitated when we are under stress.
The skin, the largest organ in the body, also acts as a protective barrier and an early warning system for the body. Their tiny hairs increase our sensitivity to physical sensations, such as heat, cold, and pain, but they also alert us to emotional pain. We talk about having “thick” or “thin” skin, and we feel like our skin cracks up when we are scared or uncomfortable.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, the quality of touch we receive affects our nervous system; it can excite, disturb or calm the airy Vatta Dosha.
Although skin can be seen as our outer layer, it is linked to and reflects the inner workings of our body. In other words, we can see how healthy a person is by looking at their skin. Radiant skin generally indicates abundant circulation, good digestion, and a strong detoxification ability (which can sometimes occur through the skin).

Although in Ayurveda our constitution (our unique combination of Vatta, Pitta and Kapha Dosha) determines the specific needs of our skin, the following tips apply to all of us:
1. GIVE YOURSELF A DAILY MASSAGE
Ayurveda recommends self-massage both to nourish the skin and to calm the body in general. Daily massage can increase circulation, strengthen the immune system, and remove impurities from the skin. Relaxing oils massaged into the skin provide a protective barrier that leaves us less vulnerable to the overstimulation of everyday life.
Highly recommended unrefined organic sesame oil or sweet almond oil.
2. DRINK HOT WATER WITH LEMON
Start your day with a cup of hot water with lemon on an empty stomach (or lime, which is more refreshing) to improve digestion and elimination, which in turn promote clear, healthy and radiant skin.
3. USE TURMERIC AS A SUPPLEMENT
A characteristic spice in Indian dishes and an important element in Ayurvedic medicine, turmeric has a powerful and almost magical effect in cleansing the skin. Traditional Ayurveda and modern research agree that this culinary root herb (related to ginger) has powerful anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects; It also strengthens and supports liver function.
Add it to your favorite food or recipes ( always with a pinch of black pepper along with turmeric and olive oil helps to obtain the desired effect).
4. READ BETWEEN THE LINES
The skin is the largest absorption organ, which means that what we put on our skin can affect the rest of the body. So choose your skincare products carefully; Look for those that contain only a few ingredients and learn what each one does.
Unfortunately, the label doesn’t tell the whole story. Cosmetic companies don’t have to list everything they put in their products and can hide harmful chemicals under the term “fragrance.” Look for the words “paraben free,” “phthalate free,” “triclosan free,” or “made with 100% pure essential oils.”
